By Jeff Carlisle · January 27, 2009

The Quakes put out a press release yesterday that “a major announcment” will take place at 1:30 PM today at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose. Reuters is now reporting that the Quakes will unveil Amway as their jersey sponsor in 2009.

The deal is expected to earn the club between $2 million and $3 million a year. According to the report, the Quakes lost $2.2 million last year, and the deal should reduce their losses to around $1 million.

Jay Hipps will be at the press conference today and will fill in the other pertinent details then.

Oh God… Its not April 1st already is it!?!? Amway, for chrissakes. oh well, its better than herbalife, but just barely. all i can say is this better go right to a DP and they better be an all-star dammit.

Totally dissappointed. Of all the companies in Silicon Valley we get Amway?! What a letdown.

It’s like being given a shiny new Penney, but told you have to dig it out of a pile of Pig shit.

Bleh. I was hoping for OSH or one of the Silicon Valley stalwarts.

Beggars can’t be choosers though. Amway would fit better with a company in Central Florida than one here.

May as well have put a Pub Logo on the shirt, it’d have more street cred than Amway. Will none of the local big guys support the biggest game on the planet?? My word, do we have to buy a new shirt with THAT on it and wear it??? Mind you $2-3 Million is just that….maybe we could use the cash to buy Beckham out from under AC Milan’s noses….LOL!!!! Think not!!!!

I think they should give free Amway samples to the Ultras. See how that will go over.

So if you want to buy a jersey do you have to sell two first? And I agree with the above, the only good thing about this is if we can sign a DP.

I think it is great! Amway Global is a world lider and ‘Quakes are lucky to have them. The lies that people make about it damage what it really is. Amway Global has shown its support in soccer especially by sponsoring Rhonaldino,Brazil, through the Nutrilite supplement brand. They also sponsor other sports like the Orlando Magic, and Own Amway Stadium, worlds fastest men, volleyball players, racers, and lots of other worldclass atheletes and sporting events, so it’s good to know that soccer is getting is share in this international company. The shirts look awesome as well.
