Monday Gold Pride, Earthquakes news
By Jay Hipps · July 27, 2009
The inaugural season of FC Gold Pride will end without playoffs after yesterday’s match against St. Louis Athletica ended in a 1-1 draw. FCGP had a lot of chances in the first half but couldn’t convert and eventually fell behind on a 28th minute goal from Niki Cross. Christine Sinclair equalized in the 87th minute for the lionesses but it wasn’t enough to keep the team’s post-season hopes alive.
You can find brief match reports at the Mercury News and the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

The Solar-Powered Soccer Blog comes sans soundtrack today, but we do have this video clip from Peru’s victory over Argentina in international women’s volleyball. (Yes, really — just watch it.)
Not sure why the clip repeats itself three times but still, quite a move.

A couple bits of Earthquakes news:
- Ryan Johnson is scheduled for further examination of his shoulder today. The diagnosis on Saturday night after the match was that he suffered a mild separation of his left shoulder. We’ll report his prognosis as soon as we know it.
- It’s not clear exactly when Arturo Alvarez will return to the lineup. Alvarez tweaked a hamstring in practice on Friday and sat out last weekend’s match against DC United. Head trainer Bruce Morgan told me Saturday night that even mild hamstring injuries tend to take more than a week for recovery, so we may not see Alvarez against Seattle, either.

do we have any info in regards to the signing of moreira?? there has been some rumors floating around that his signing in imminent, but that was a couple of days ago….any new trialists scheduled for this week???
If he follows his typical schedule, Jeff Carlisle will be at practice tomorrow. If there are any new trialists, he’ll be on top of it. I haven’t heard anything about Moreira myself.
