Quakes await completion of Andre Luiz signing

By Jeff Carlisle · July 28, 2009

San Jose’s midfield makeover looks set to continue, with former Brazilian international Andre Luiz about to become the Earthquakes’ latest capture.

News of Andre Luiz’s imminent signing broke Sunday courtesy of thebaysoccer.com, and Quakes’ manager Frank Yallop confirmed the team’s interest following Tuesday’s practice session, although contract details and acquisition of his ITC are still yet to be completed. That said, Yallop is eager to pair Andre Luiz, who has been capped 19 times by Brazil, with his other recent midfield acquisition, Ramon Sanchez.

“He’s very experienced, and a good smooth player in the center of the park,” said Yallop about Andre Luiz. “He’s played for Brazil, and I know that was years ago, but if you have that in your blood, you’re going to be pretty good.

“Fitness is not an issue. He looks great and ready to go.”

Andre Luiz has looked impressive in training, and looks closer to 24 rather than his official age of 34. He even scored on an audacious 35-yard chip in training last Friday.

    more good news, jeff! if our team can finish on a positive note and have some good building blocks maybe we’ll get the start in 2010 we hoped for this year. it would also be awesome to watch a winning team while our stadium is being built!

    @Albany

    International Transfer Certificate. Quakes need it before Andre Luiz can suit up for them since he counts as an international player

    good news,thx., jay! now do you know for how long is the contract? also i’m wondering about sanchez, is he on loan or do we outright own him?. just wondering in case this guys turn out to be the real deal. sanchez looked a bit tentative on saturday, but that was expected being his 1st game, althought i did like his touch quite a bit.

    breaking news! Terry Cooke has been waived! Lets pick him up! I believe he is our answer to the long lost departure of ROB at right flank! Convey is a bust so far and Alvarez cannot cross! Move Alvarez back to forward and place Cooke on the right flank

    i hereby officially dub him: ALM

    Wednesday Links: Toure on the verge of City move, Arsenal lining up Hangeland as replacement, could also be in for Huntelaar…

    England + Kolo Touré is scheduled to leave Arsenal's training camp in Austria this evening to fly…

    @Supsam I like your thinking!!!! I think Convey has been a bust this year but hopefully if hucks leave he’ll be able to own as a left mid, but as right mid Convey and Arturo suck!

    That said I kind of want this guy more, and to cut elliot, then we can work on signing cooke (i doubt JD can work on two deals at a time)
