Corrales at center back? It could happen
By Jeff Carlisle · August 27, 2009
I’m still in the process of trying to get a hold of Frank Yallop ahead of Saturday’s tilt against New England, but rumor has it that Ramiro Corrales could be the one to replace the suspended Jason Hernandez.
The other candidate of course is new boy Fabio da Silva, but I’m hearing Yallop hasn’t been too impressed with his fitness, hence the need to look at other options.
The other question mark heading into the New England match is who replaces Cornell Glen. Do you give Ryan Johnson a start, or do you reward Chris Wondolowski for his late heroics against Kansas City? I’ll let you know the moment I find out.

Got to be Wondo he deserves a start
WONDOLOWSKI
IT HAS TO BE WONDO !!
Start Wondo , sub in Johnson only when Chris gets knackered.
Put them both in! Alvarez should be a sub until he can use his right foot!
I’m with William! Start RJ and Wondo and let Arturo sit the bench. How can any player at this level think it’s OK to use only one foot?! In every match AA fails to make a pass or a cross or take a shot several times because he has to switch the ball to his “good” foot. It’s a disgrace!
So signing Fabio was a great move eh? We cut Cochrane who can play 90 minutes for a guy who is so unfit that after two full weeks in camp he’s not ready to go?! Can we sack JD and Frank right now?
Go Quakes!

ha ha, I started reading the comments before finishing the article and was thinking, “Wondo would NOT be a good center back!”
If Fabio was not impressive, and old, why sign him?!
We signed him because JD/FY are good at spotting injured/non-fit players who
has played at Europe and kicking out good committed players to make room
for them. We did at the beginning of the season (ROB) and did it again with
Cochran being replaced by a player who will take God-knows-how-many weeks
to become fit. After becomming fit (if at all), will play at a position different from
the one he was recruited - may be as forward.
Gee, these two guys are having the coolest job in Silicon Valley - no fear of job
loss, no fear of pay cut, irrespective of whatever screw up, they do!
If Yallop is not impressed with the new signings fitness, why was he signed this late in the year and what “impressed” Yallop and Doyle to want him on the team? Is this guy represented by the same agents Ribiero?
I enjoyed working with Ronnie O’Brien when he was on the team but I have to this question: If he’s so amazing, how come he’s not playing anywhere? You wouldn’t have to trade much to the Quakes to get him, and he’s a free transfer for any other league in the world.
It’s time to let it go and support the guys who actually wear Earthquakes blue every week.
Jay, we love to support our Quakes…we’d just like to support a guy signed two weeks ago who is not “fit” enough to play…so why was he signed? For next year?
Joe, I don’t have any more info on that than you do, unfortunately. It does seem unusual — the coaching staff hasn’t shown much hesitation in throwing new signings into the mix in the past. (My comment above was in response to the continued pleas for the return of Ronnie O’Brien, not your comment about da Silva.)
Jay, the desire for Ronnie isn’t based on him being “so” good that other teams were eager to pick him up. The point is that the best crosser we had (and the best scorer last year, even if that wasn’t saying much for us) was traded to open up money to strengthen the team. But the team is not stronger than last year. O’Brien isn’t the only factor in that but it seemed like a really bad move when we lost people like Lima and Riley at the same time.
