I am amazed that Donovan is the most marketed U.S. soccer player, and not McBride. Landon is a very talented guy, but his intangibles (personality, drive to succeed, showing up in big games) leave something to be desired. On the other hand, McBride is everything you want your leader to be.

I am not trying to bash Donovan. I still consider him a great talented young player, who has made some bad career decisions and still has a chance to impress. But I doubt he is the face of U.S. soccer the league wants to project. If they have to market someone, I'd rather it be McBride.

I went to the game and the sad thing was that both Support Groups (on opposite sides of the stadiums) were very quite compared to other Supporter Groups around the league (Rapids, Galaxy, Toronto)......The permanent seats Santa Clara has are so uncomfortable as other stadiums...like Home Depot at least have seat backs if not an individual chair......

The lack of exits is a major concern as getting out of the stadium during that first game tooook forever!!!!!

The field looked nice as they just put new pitch down, but overall it felt like I was watching an NCAA College Soccer Game. I heard the renovations were up to $1M potentially, but seems like the only thing worth the money they spent on during renovations was the grass and a few extra seats.

I was extremely disappointed in the supporter groups as they had tons of Streamers in their seats and I only saw about 5 people throw them on the field.......Some of these supporter group members are absolutely crazy. At the Oakland Game v Fire they somewhat got into a fight with a Chicago fan and were cussing with kids around which is fine in my opinion...........but they did NOTHING to evoke pride in the fans at Buck Shaw..........Some of the Santa Clara male student body could have done better than them

Hi dallesandro. My first reaction is to say that yes, the Quakes are bottom of the pile because of the Peguero deal, but I wonder if the discovery pile is different. I'll look into it.

couldn't paste the link but there is a section that states that yallop is really interested in getting darren huckerby the only problem is that we seem to ne second in allocation when he spoke about this would it still be true that we are second behind Toronto or are we at the bottom if the pile because we got peguero? Thanks

Thanks for the change Mike. I was didn't that Sigi would use Danny O'Rourke as a centre-back, and thought he was out of options.

A small correction as the Crew play a 4-4-1-1, rather than the 3-5-2 mentioned above. Starting lineup for this evening will be:

--------------------Hesmer--------------------
Hejduk----O'Roarke---Marshall----Ezra
--------------------Carroll----------------------
---Gaven------Miglioranzi------Rogers--
------------------Schelotto-------------------
-------------------Moreno---------------------

Thanks TH - really enjoy the analysis. I think you're right that Moreno takes advantage of the refs -- what he lacks in pace and an outside shot, he more than makes up for by winning free kicks in dangerous spots. I think Garcia is wiley enough to know how to play that game - I don't know about Hernandez much, but I'm hoping he'll have a great game.

Roblar, I agree. One of the hallmarks of a good team is that everyone is competing for a spot in the starting 11. Taking a look at a variety of players is the same concept applied in a slightly different area.
