Game day press roundup, New England edition

With the Quakes out of town since Thursday, it’s been a relatively quiet week here at the Solar-Powered Soccer Blog, so I’ve been working on a couple new projects. We’ll be unveiling one of them in the next week or so here on CLS; the other is an idea I have for a great new movie. Picture this: a human and alien meet and have a torrid but short-lived affair. My tentative title: District 9 1/2 Weeks.

Before we jump into the news, here’s the soundtrack for today. On this date 43 years ago, the Beatles played their last ever official concert, and it was at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. The band knew ahead of time that it would be their last show — the rigors of the road had simply become too much to handle — so, the story goes, Paul McCartney had their press officer record the concert on a hand-held cassette recorder, which was cutting-edge technology for the day. That tape has been traded around the world since then, and someone has put the entire 33-minute concert on YouTube in four segments, which we share below.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Music, She’s a Woman, If I Needed Someone

Day Tripper, Baby’s in Black, I Feel Fine

Yesterday, I Wanna Be Your Man, Nowhere Man

Paperback Writer, Long Tall Sally (cut)

Neat stuff.

You say you want a Revolution? On to the news, then.

Thanks to New England’s great press coverage, we’ve got a ton of pre-game stories:

- Kyle McCarthy writes about the return of midfielder Jeff Larentowicz to the Revs’ lineup for the Boston Herald.

- Monique Walker takes a look at the Revolution’s late-season surge in the Boston Globe.

- Comcast Sports Net New England also gets in on the mix with their look at the next few games on the Revs’ schedule.

- MLSnet.com offers the usual assemblage of pre-game stories. From the New England side, it’s a take on the team’s growing momentum and another look at Larentowicz; for the Quakes,  our own Jeff Carlisle takes a look at the team’s latest attempt to break their road winless streak. The “just the facts, ma’am” preview is also available.

- Elliott Almond of the Mercury News highlights the play of second-year man Shea Salinas, who’s been enjoying a run in the starting lineup recently.

In other news, FIFA.com takes a look at the El Salvador national team, the USA’s opponent next Saturday. Carlos de los Cobos, the team’s coach, has this to say about San Jose’s Arturo Alvarez: “He’s a great player who gives us different options up front, and we’re delighted to have him in the team.”

Finally, UK media giant Sky Sports notes that Spurs, San Jose’s EPL sister team, have started a similar partnership with Brazilian side Internacional.
