Guerrero sent to DC United

The Washington Post’s Steven Goff is reporting that San Jose’s Ivan Guerrero has been acquired by DC United for a partial allocation. The move allows San Jose to meet MLS roster requirements after the acquisition of Arturo Alvarez from FC Dallas.
Guerrero, 30, made 13 starts and came off the bench once for the Quakes, spending time at both left back and left midfield. His finest moment in blue and black came when he scored the game-winning goal against Houston at Buck Shaw Stadium on May 22.
The trade is also being reported on DC United’s official blog and on Soccer by Ives.

I’m completely disappointed in this move — Guerrero was one of my favorite players, and I thought he played good D while also making good runs forward. I’m sorry to see him go for nothing more than a partial allocation (surely he was worth more than that), and I wish him well with DC.
Does this mean we’re going to be moving Corrales to left-back? (I imagine not.)
clearly youth is served in this move. while not as experienced, alvarez should be a far better finisher as well.
While I am also disappointed and was also looking forward to Ivan at left back, I believe he may have been one of the few players who had true trade value…
I really would like to see someone besides Denton at left back, and hope it doesn’t mean taking Ramiro out of the midfield, where I think he has been one of the bright spots for the Quakes this year.
A good move again by Doyle. You can’t pay Guerrero 140k to sit on the bench and come in as a sub, he was replaced by Lima. With Alvarez making 166k, this was salary motivated, not a reflection of Guerrero as a player.
Did you know Kirovski is making 220k? Yikes!
