Joe Vide, we hardly knew ye
By Jeff Carlisle · July 1, 2008
On a day in which practice was optional for most first team players, midfielder Joe Vide was conspicuous by his absence. It turns out there was a reason for this, as San Jose manager Frank Yallop confirmed that the Earthquakes are attempting to trade Vide to a team that can promise him more playing time.
Vide made five appearances for San Jose this season, two of them starts, but became surplus to requirements with the acquisition and subsequent solid play of Kelly Gray.
“Kelly has done such a good job, and I don’t want to duplicate those positions,” said Yallop. “We’re just trying to find a place for [Vide] where he can play.”
The cut-off date for guaranteeing a player’s yearly salary was July 1, and to that end, San Jose has kept Vide on the roster, basically extending his contract until the end of the season. Now comes the task of finding a suitable club for the former New York Red Bull.
Should a trade come to pass, it would appear to grease the skids for signing Brazilian midfielder Francisco Lima.

he played pretty good for the ny, so i was kinda happy when we got him. but the few games he played w/ us he was horrible, so good on yallop, to cut dead weight. plus if were getting yet ANOTHER d-mid it makes sense.
