More on Lima
By Jeff Carlisle · October 25, 2008
Following Saturday’s 2-0 win over Toronto FC, San Jose midfielder Francisco Lima finally broke his silence regarding his future, without revealing much at all.
“For me it’s just difficult right now,” said Lima through a translator. “I don’t know. I don’t know. I’ll have to talk it over with my family.”
Fortunately, some other sources have been a bit more forthcoming. What I’ve been able to piece together is that it’s about the money. Apparently Lima had good offers from several European clubs before deciding to come to San Jose. And all indications are that he likes the area, the team, the manager. But apparently, what Lima didn’t realize when he signed his contract is that Uncle Sam would take a significant bite out of his pay packet. That has made those overseas offers more attractive. A lot more attractive.
Manager Frank Yallop reiterated that he believes Lima will be back next year, but it sounds like Lima is the one making the decision.

He can just go. He’s overpaid in this league since he would be only a backup anyway if Ramiro stays healthy.
We can get a better Ramiro backup. Or…an upgrade in the middle! Imagine that!
Invest in the stock market. He’d get great tax breaks with all of the losses occurring now.
Joe the Plumber meet Lima the midfielder.
Our midfield was at it’s best this season when Ramiro and Lima held it together. I will not be happy to see Francisco leave the club. We will need to sign some younger center mids in any case at least as backups to Ramiro and Lima should he stay, or to challenge for starting spots should Lima leave.
