Quakes acquire Sealy from Wizards

By Jay Hipps · July 14, 2008

Centerlinesoccer.com has learned that the Earthquakes have acquired forward Scott Sealy from the Kansas City Wizards. Sealy, 27, has scored 28 goals in 88 appearances (65 starts) over his MLS career, which started in 2005. He led the Wizards with 10 goals in 2006. San Jose will send an undisclosed amount of allocation money to the Wizards in the deal.

Sealy, a native of Chaguanas, Trinidad, is known for his speed and frequently played the role of super-sub for the Wizards. Sealy has won over 20 caps with the Trinidad & Tobago national team and is in the running for a slot on the Soca Warriors side which will take the field in August for their next World Cup qualifying match.

Sealy played college soccer at Wake Forest, where he earned recognition as a second team All-American in his senior year. He was selected by the Kansas City as the 11th overall pick in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft.

In other news, the Earthquakes are expected to announce the official signing of former Norwich City star Darren Huckerby later today.

UPDATE: Both moves are official now. You can read the press release here.

is it true that sealy’s contract is over at the end of the season, and wants to try europe? if he leaves how much money did we give up? is it just for this year or does the amount carry over next year. since he might not be here? thanx!

As reported by “Soccer by Ives”:

“A source tells me that San Jose gave KC an allocation larger than $125,000 in the trade to acquire Scott Sealy. That’s more than $60,000 for each of the two goals Sealy has scored this year. That’s just a bit pricey for a forward who A) is planning to leave MLS after this season and B) is likely to miss time due to World Cup qualifying with Trinidad & Tobago.”

jay, heard anything? doesn’t sound to smart of a move. if we’re stuck for more than the next 3 months and sealy leaves , doyle needs to answer some questions.
