Quakes waive Joe Vide

By Jay Hipps · July 14, 2008

Two weeks ago, our own Jeff Carlisle reported that midfielder Joe Vide was on the trading block, but it turns out that was only a way station on the way to the chopping block, as the Quakes waived the former Red Bull today.

Vide, 24, came to the club in the expansion draft and made five appearances for San Jose this year, including a pair of starts. A former youth player for TSV Munich 1860, he played college soccer at the University of Virginia before being picked up in the 2006 MLS Supplemental Draft by the MetroStars. He made 13 starts for the New York club last year, thanks largely to injuries to first-choice midfielders Claudio Reyna and Dema Kovalenko.

The Earthquakes’ acquisition of Darren Huckerby and Scott Sealy made the move necessary to comply with MLS roster limits.

Great news. Is there anything holding up the Lima signing?
