For the second straight week, the San Jose Earthquakes can boast a nominee for MLS Goal of the Week. In week #3, Khari Stephenson took home the prize for his stunning 35 yard blast against the Seattle Sounders that earned the Quakes a 2-2 draw. This time out, a beautifully finished goal from Simon Dawkins that came courtesy of a give-and-go pass into the area is worthy of nomination.

I asked Dawkins after training on Tuesday how he felt about being nominated, and he laughingly replied “Oh that’s terrible, that’s terrible.” Very humble, but also very professional, the 23-year old on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur, continued on when pressed to lobby fans to vote for him “No, no, that’s not goal of the week.” He was smiling the whole time, perhaps even with a hint of a smirk. While the finishing kick on its own was not spectacular, the sequence between Dawkins and Wondo is definitely worthy of GOTW consideration. However, with a representative from the Sounders in the form of O’Brien White’s well taken header also in the mix, it is hard to imagine the award this week going anywhere other than the Pacific Northwest.

Voting for this week’s award closes tonight at midnight, so if you are not from Seattle, make sure to follow the link and show the Quakes midfielder some love.
