Quakes Cast Episode 20: Chivas USA, Philadelphia Union, West Bromwich Albion, Columbus Crew, oh my!

Episode 20 of the Quakes Cast starts off with a look back at the San Jose Earthquake last two MLS league matches, a 2-0 loss at Chivas USA and a scoreless draw at home with the Philadelphia Union. The defensive effort was outstanding at Buck Shaw Stadium Saturday night, but the offense again came away without scoring — not surprising given that they only put one shot on goal in the entire game. At least there were root beer floats to be enjoyed, of which our hosts downed multiple mugs of the tasty treat. All expect Kelly, who was busy serving the delectables early in the evening, before heading up to the broadcast booth to make his Comcast Sportsnet debut (Photo: Joe Nuxoll, centerlinesoccer.com).

Taking a look ahead, the podcasting trio breaks down the upcoming friendly with English Premier League side West Bromwich Albion and the weekend’s MLS tilt at the Columbus Crew. A check of Earthquakes news this week reveals a decidedly feel-good vibe, especially with word that Chris Wondolowski has been voted in by fan balloting to the MLS All-Star game First XI — congratulations Chris! Also, your hosts discuss an Earthquakes promotion going on this wek where you can vote for the best goal in franchise history — all with the chance of winning some field-side seats for next weekend’s match with Joe Cannon’s Vancouver Whitecaps. Listeners, your voting responsibilities don’t end there, as MLS W.O.R.K.S. has nominated Stuart Berman as the Earthquakes Community MVP for his charitable efforts, and Stu needs your help to be named MLS MVP as well.

Lastly, to close out the show, Robert, Kelly, and Joe answer a slew of listener questions that stacked up as the show was being recorded. Sure, a lot of the answers can be gleaned from listening in earlier, but we save some of the best questions for last. One pressing issue as to whether Robert is a DP quality defender did go unanswered, and will need to be revisited on a later show. As always, your hosts hope you will heed their call and get your questions in for future shows. And yes, while they fell short of the promised four hour long show, the talking heads trio hope you enjoy this week’s Quakes Cast.
