La Selecta midfielder Isidro Gutiérrez linked with move to San Jose Earthquakes

Reports early Monday suggested that El Salvador midfielder Isidro Gutiérrez was a transfer target of the San Jose Earthquakes. The Salvadoran currently plays for domestic side Águila and has been named to the roster ahead of La Selecta's upcoming Central American championship campaign. Primarily a right sided winger, Gutiérrez could be a valuable pick-up if Englishman Simon Dawkins does not return to San Jose for the 2013 season.

According to a report coming out of El Salvador, the San Jose Earthquakes have expressed interest in La Selecta midfielder Isidro Gutiérrez. The 23-year old right sided winger currently plays for Salvadoran Premier League side Águila, but is set to make a move to MLS if the opportunity should arise.

The news first broke on Twitter when Alex Villatoro, a representative of AV Sports management, mentioned the Earthquakes as a possible suitor for the talented international:

A year ago, the Earthquakes supposedly were a destination for another Salvadoran footballer, midfielder Jaime Alas. The midfielder even joined the team during the Southern California leg of their preseason training last February, but an agreement to bring Alas to San Jose did not materialize.

The Earthquakes have a rich tradition of signing La Selecta players to their roster. In past seasons, San Jose has welcomed Arturo Alvarez and Ramon Sanchez to the team. Standout Ronald Cerritos was, until he was surpassed last season by Chris Wondolowski, the leading scorer in franchise history. As to whether Gutiérrez could be the next Salvadoran to don Earthquakes Blue-and-Black, a source with the team could not comment on the report.
