The San Jose Earthquakes, with the 15th overall pick in a 2013 MLS SuperDraft not projected to be very deep in talent, selected Tommy Muller out of Georgetown. The centerback will provide good depth on the Quake backline and will look to team defensive MVP Victor Bernardez as his mentor.
Earlier in the day, the Earthquakes traded away their second round pick, 34th overall, to the Portland Timbers for the player rights to forward Mike Fucito. The four-year MLS veteran scored 3 goals and recorded 2 assists in 36 total appearances for the Timbers, the Seattle Sounders, and the Monteal Impact. San Jose has a history of dealing draft picks for proven players, and with the Earthquakes playing on three fronts this year (MLS, USOC, CCL), having an experienced forward like Fucito at their disposal will be important.
