The San Jose Earthquakes fans already have a pacy attacking midfielder on their wish list for 2014 - someone who can take the ball straight up the middle. For many , that position was missing in 2013 after the departure of Tottenham Hotspur loanee Simon Dawkins.
Dawkins, still not able to find a place in the Spurs first team squad, has since been loaned to Aston Villa and is now on "emergency 93 day loan" to Derby County of the English Championship League. I don't know the nature of the emergency in Derby, but Simon seems to be finding his feet in the East Midlands.
In his third appearance for The Rams against QPR he scored his first senior goal in English soccer. Quoted in the Derby Telegraph he said ""Obviously, I’m pleased with the goal and it’s great to get off the mark. It was worth the wait.". Simon scored once again this past Sunday against The Latics of Wigan - his second goal in five appearances was a fitting celebration of his 26th birthday .
In case Quakes fans are wondering, the 93 day loan will expire on Sunday, January 19, 2014. Whither the next journey for Simon Dawkins?
