It was a long time coming, but San Jose Earthquakes star forward Chris Wondolowski finally tallied his first goal for the U.S. Men's National Team.
Coming in the second half of a game that was USA all the way, Wondolowski cleaned up a deflected pass from Landon Donovan and calmly slotted the ball into the net to extend the Nat's lead to 3-0 over Guatemala.
Meanwhile, another Earthquake found the back of the net against Guatemala. After narrowly missing a chance to give the USMNT their first goal with a thunderous header in the first half, Clarence Goodson finally got on the score sheet with a "Never Say Die" effort in a goal mouth scramble. The soon-to-be Earthquakes starting center back pushed the U.S. advantage to 5-0 with his goal.
The U.S. begins Gold Cup play on Tuesday when they open Group C play against Belize in Portland, OR. The Yanks are favorites in the group, which also contains Costa Rica and Cuba, and are seeking a return to the tournament final where they hope to meet Mexico. El Tri has triumphed over the Yanks in each of the last two Gold Cup finals.
