Welcome to MLS, Liam Ridgewell.
That was the message San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch gave to the Portland Timbers newcomer back on September 7. As part of a 10-save performance that afternoon at Providence Park, Buschy kept the Quakes afloat in what turned out to be a 3-3 thriller against the Timbers.
So good was the save on Ridgewell that Busch was nominated for and won that week's MLS Save of the Week, his only such honor of the season, one in which he set the Earthquakes franchise record for saves with 138.
And now, as part of MLS' end of season tournament-style Save of the Year voting, Busch is in the running. He faces stiff competition from Real Salt Lake's Jeff Attinella, Vancouver Whitecaps' David Ousted (an outside contender for the 2014 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award), and the Colorado Rapids' Clint Irwin.
Earthquakes supporters have until midnight Wednesday to get their votes in. So don't delay, and submit your ballot here.
