San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch nominated for MLS Save of the Week

Often undervalued after a comprehensive victory, the efforts of goalkeeper Jon Busch in the first half against the Houston Dynamo in the San Jose Earthquakes 3-0 victory kept the game scoreless until the goal scoring heroics began. For Busch, his play earned him a Save of the Week nomination.

The offense finally came to life for the San Jose Earthquakes last Sunday, as a Khari Stephenson brace and a fantastic individual effort from Atiba Harris gave the Quakes a 3-0 win over the Houston Dynamo. With Chris Wondolowski busy with the U.S. men's national team, it was encouraging to see someone else break though and score for San Jose.

But the real hero of the match was, without a doubt, goalkeeper Jon Busch. Early in the first half, Busch made a pair of excellent saves to keep the game scoreless and set the scene for Stephenson's game winner. His reaction save on Warren Creavalle's header in the 29th minute was especially impressive and earned the 'keeper a nod for MLS Save of the Week.

Busch has been nominated already this season, but he has yet to take the prize. This week his competition is Donovan Ricketts's sliding stop on Bradley Wright-Phillips, Stefan Frei's diving stop on Gershon Koffie to preserve a draw, Bill Hamid's sprawling stop on a Giles Barnes rocket, and Troy Perkins's flying block on Kamani Hill. Clearly, Busch is at the top of that list of impressive saves.
