A late goal by Colorado Rapids forward Gabriel Torres was cancelled out by an even later goal by San Jose Earthquakes forward Atiba Harris as the two teams played to a 1-1 draw at Dick's Sporting Goods Park last Saturday.
The result extended the winless streaks of each team to a rather ignominious total of ten games. Both the Rapids and Quakes are in danger of being eliminated from postseason qualification, though neither side has been mathematically eliminated.
The Earthquakes return home this weekend to face the Portland Timbers, currently sixth in the Western Conference. The best the Quakes can do in terms of points total this season would be 44 -- most observers agree that 50 points is likely the threshold for the fifth and last playoff spot in the West.
