The San Jose Earthquakes came up big in the Emerald City, surviving the ejection of defender Victor Bernardez early in the second half and beating the Seattle Sounders 3-2 at CenturyLink Field.
Chris Wondolowski scored twice for the Quakes, raising his total scored against Seattle to a league-best nine, and Innoncent Emeghara added the game-winning-goal to give San Jose its first MLS victory since a 1-0 win against the Sounders on August 2 of last year. The victory snapped a club-record 16-game winless streak.
Clint Dempsey and Obafemi Martins scored for Seattle, the second straight match to open the 2015 MLS season that the attacking duo has found the back of the net, but a shorthanded Earthquakes defense was able to fend off the Sounders and claim victory.
