The San Jose Earthquakes announced that goalkeeper David Bingham has been added to the roster for the U.S. Men's National Team training camp that starts January 10, making official a report that came out the day before.
Bingham was to join his teammates Fatai Alashe and Marc Pelosi for the month-long camp at the StubHub Center, one that concludes with international friendlies against Iceland on January 31 and Canada on February 5, but in the same announcement, the Earthquakes said that the two second-year MLS midfielders have withdrawn from the camp due to injuries.
According to a report in the San Jose Mercury News, Alashe has a groin injury and Pelosi is suffering from tendinitis. Stanford University senior defender Brandon Vincent, a potential top-five selection in next week's MLS SuperDraft, was among the players that replaced Alashe and Pelosi on head coach Jurgen Klinsmann's roster.
Bingham completed his first full season in goal for the Earthquakes in a 2015 campaign that saw him tie the franchise record for shutouts with 12. The 26-year old played every minute of the 34-game season for San Jose and faced 147 shots, making 105 saves, fourth most in MLS last season. His goals-against-average for 2015 was a stingy 1.15 per 90 minutes.
This is Bingham's first call-up at any level of U.S. Soccer, and he will have his first chance to earn a national team cap when the USMNT plays Iceland and Canada. Bingham will return to San Jose to join the Earthquakes preseason when the camp concludes on February 6.
