Real Wondo Rocks Two Against Real Sociedad

In between taking in a Golden State Warriors game and Basquing in the balmy Bay Area pre-summer, La Liga side Real Sociedad played some soccer at Avaya. Even #Vela2SJ couldn't save the San Sebastian side from succumbing to San Jose 2-1 in an entertaining friendly.

Week 10.5ish - #SJvRSO

DRINK OF THE MATCH:

"Basquing in the Silicon Valley Sun"

A few days after finishing 9th in La Liga, storied Basque side Real Sociedad landed at SFO and immediately made a beeline to Oracle Arena:

The next day, RSO prepped for SJE by playing rugby in San Francisco:

Seems to be better coverage coming from Spain than San Jose:

CSN SportsNet didn't have the rights to the match, so it was going to be a Quakes STH "Bonus Game A" ticket or bust. Until KLIV 1590's Ted Ramey flew in to save the day & rock the play-by-play over the La Liga video stream:

Some, however, were still living in a fantasy world:

#Vela2SJ has finally happened:

So hope no P-chant tonight:

Back to actual positive stuff:

LINEUPS!!

Tommy is always italicized in our hearts & minds.

FIRST HALF

Quakes just looking outclassed.

On the plus side:

No video recap. But it's Shea to Wondo. So you know how it goes.

HALF TIME

Shea-Fence?

LOBINA trends in Spain!

(Sound a bit fishy, tho)

SECOND HALF

Tarbell in!

WONDO GOAL REDUX

Even Real Sociedad’s Twitter has difficulty dealing with Wondo:

POST MATCH

Quakes Academy in the House!

Los Quakes trending in Spain!
And above Los Warriors!

Trending jibes aside, games like these do matter: whole swathes of Spanish fans, players, & agents just got a good look at our team, our stadium (especially our amazing bar), and our fans. A #Basque2SJ pipeline would not be a bad relationship to cultivate--Real Sociedad, Eibar (who just played against NY Cosmos) & Athletic Bilbao are all quality sides who have survived & sometimes thrived in La Liga, all while recruiting from a very small Basque-only player pool.  Definitely interesting possibilities.

And definitely more real-istic than #Vela2SJ
(Though it did happen. Just not in Black & Blue)

MOST IMPORTANT: GEEZ & CATO BACK IN BLACK & BLUE:

Onward into the Valley of Death (StubHub Center) rode the 600 Quakes, Fans, & Ultras!
