The Copa America Centenario is the biggest international soccer tournament held in the United States since the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup, and supporters of the USA are gearing up to celebrate in style.
The opening match of Copa is this Friday, June 3, as the U.S. men's national team takes on Colombia at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, CA. Known more as the home of the San Francisco 49ers, Levi's Stadium has hosted numerous big soccer matches since its opening in 2014.
And now, Levi's will witness the biggest soccer party in its history, as the American Outlaws -- the largest and best organized U.S. soccer supporters group -- rally around the USMNT.
The American Outlaws are planning events before each of the three USA group stage matches over the next two weeks, and, if the Yanks advance, ahead of the knockout round games as well. For the Copa America tournament opener, AO is planning a massive tailgate, followed by a march to the match just ahead of kickoff. Members and non-members alike are invited to participate.
The tailgate begins at 1:30 p.m. and runs through the afternoon. It will be located in the northeast corner of the Blue 1 parking lot, just off Great America Parkway and across the street from Levi's Stadium. Food and libations will be plentiful, and the rallying national patriotic fervor will be palpable. At 5:30 p.m., the revelers, decked in all manner of Red, White, and Blue, will assemble for a march to the stadium.
The American Outlaws march to the match is a long-standing tradition, and the spectacle is not to be missed.
For those USA fans, and for all soccer fans in general, looking to celebrate the tournament opener the night before, American Outlaws are hosting a party at nearby Avaya Stadium, home of the San José Earthquakes. The event starts at 5:30 p.m., and a watch party for the U.S. women's national team friendly against Japan at 6:00 p.m. on the stadium scoreboard will be included in the festivities.
Food and drinks will be offered, as concessionaires and food trucks will feed the masses, while the TCL 4K Bar -- the longest outdoor bar in North America, nicknamed the LOBINA -- will serve beverages of all description. Special guests and friends of U.S. soccer are expected to attend the rally, so grab your USA gear for this free event.
And whether or not the U.S. men's national team can pull off the upset against Colombia on Friday night, its supporters, and the entire Bay Area soccer community, will be winners during this epic Copa America Centenario celebration tournament.
