The San Jose Earthquakes completed their 2017 preseason on a high note Saturday afternoon, securing a decisive 4-1 victory over the Sacramento Republic FC at Avaya Stadium.

Goals from Quakes veterans Shea Salinas and Simon Dawkins made all the difference as San Jose upped its preseason record to 6-1-2. Newcomers Jahmir Hyka and Danny Hoesen added goals late in the second half to secure the victory.

The Earthquakes have never lost to Sacramento, beating the USL side twice in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and four times in preseason friendlies since the Republic first played in 2014.

Dawkins’ game-winning-goal was his first of the preseason, as he has slowly been building up his fitness after taking off the entire off-season. He told Center Line Soccer after the game that he did not remember much about the build-up to the goal, only that he received the ball in space and turned to find the goal waiting. Dawkins was subbed out right after scoring following a solid 68 minute shift, marking his longest appearance of the preseason.
