According to a press release from Sporting Cristal the Peruvian side has made a deal to bring young left-back Marcos López Lanfranco to San Jose. Terms of the agreement were not discussed, but the press release mentions that Cristal will get 20% of any future transfer fees for Lopez. This signing fills a big gap in the Earthquakes lineup and looks like yet another signing of new manager Matias Almeyda. The Argentine has made a reputation of giving young players the opportunity to prove themselves on the pitch, and it looks like he brought that mentality to San Jose.
On February 9th the Earthquakes begin their 2019 campaign with a visit to their USL affiliate Reno 1868 FC this will serve as an excellent opportunity to see what Almeyda has planned and how the players are adjusting to the new strategy.
