Gregg Berhalter has called up 24 players for the USMNT upcoming friendlies against Ecuador and Chile and once again Nick Lima got the call. The San Jose Earthquakes defender had a breakout January camp that caught the attention of soccer fans nationwide. With DeAndre Yedlin struggling at Newcastle many think now is the time for Nick Lima to finally earn more regular playing time for the national team.
While some Earthquakes fans might find hard to let such a valuable piece of the team leave when the team is struggling on both sides of the pitch but Lima should only miss this Saturday’s match against New York Red Bulls. Quakes fans can resume agonizing about the future of their team on March 30 when LAFC heads into town.
These may only be friendlies but they are high profile matches and are invaluable experience for a squad that can use a boost.
