San Jose Earthquakes defender Marcos López will represent the Peruvian National Team in a pair of friendlies near the tail end of March. The 19 year old is the youngest player called up by head coach Ricardo Gareca.
Peru will take on El Salvador and Paraguay on March 22 and 26, respectively. Those games come between San Jose’s matches against the New York Red Bulls (March 16) and LAFC (March 30). The Quakes also have a friendly against Monterrey on March 23.
López came over from Sporting Cristal Lima thanks to the ever opaque Targeted Allocation Money and made a solid debut against the Montreal Impact, playing 90 minutes and making three key passes. He’s set to be a fixture on the backline of the San Jose defense for the rest of the season and, hopefully, years to follow.
The Quakes are back in action Saturday against Minnesota United at 5 p.m. Pacific.
