Chris Wondolowski Named MLS Player of the Month

Wondo earns the honor for a record seventh time

MLS: FC Dallas at San Jose Earthquakes Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

For the seventh time in his career, San Jose Earthquakes legend Chris Wondolowski has been named Major League Soccer’s Player of the Month for May. Wondo has been as hot as the California weather scoring six goals in May while having played only 203 minutes. That is good enough for one goal every 33.8 minutes and puts him well above the leagues second most prolific scorer in May, Josef Martinez, who also had six goals last month but needed 621 to get to that mark.

Wondo’s hot foot has cooled down to human levels in June, but he still has a goal in the Quakes last two matches and seems to be playing this season with a renewed energy that fans have grown accustomed to seeing but may have been misplaced the previous couple of seasons. He gets his next chance to keep his current streak going in June 26th when his old squad Houston Dynamo visit Avaya Stadium.
