The San Jose Earthquakes dropped this tease last night on Twitter.

I feel pretty safe in saying this is a hint that they will announce Oswaldo Alanis’ signing today. There’s no tell-tale sign blaring here, no Alanis jersey being made, but after reports on Monday emerged he took his physical in Mexico and the team being in Mexico right now, along with this tease, expect word to come down at any point.
Here’s more news for your Tuesday:
- Happy Birthday, Wondo: The ageless wonder is in fact 37 as of today. Am guessing he celebrated his birthday at home before the Cancun trip, since I assume he’s been allocated 50 grams of birthday cake bliss at the resort by the team staff in preseason. At any rate, happy birthday!
Our Leader.

- One more! This brief feature on the Quakes’ website gives a peek into the first day of Cancun camp. It all sounds pretty by the book, and the detail of Guido Bonini shouting “One more!” while making the players do a few extra reps is so, so preseason. Probably more than a few players will hear those words in their sleep and their legs will seize up in terror.
- Free agents still on market: Paul Tenorio at The Athletic has an intriguing list of veteran free agents yet to be signed. Former Quakes man Steven Beitashour is on it, and one figures for a team looking for marginal gains, one of these guys could do a job?
- CSL transfer targets? If you still want to dig up a transfer wishlist, Greg Seltzer has a helpful list over at MLSsoccer.com, running through potential targets in light of the Chinese Super League’s change in foreign player rules. It’s admittedly speculative but you never know, we could see one of these faces around MLS or even San Jose in the future.
Today’s question: How are you celebrating Wondo’s birthday/Oswaldo Alanis’ probable signing announcement? Let us know in the comments, let’s chat!
