Georgia are coming off their Euro 2020 playoff heartbreak in recent days and had to get right back in the saddle, as they faced Armenia in UEFA Nations League play on Sunday.
San Jose Earthquakes attacker Vako scored Georgia’s goal on the day from the penalty spot to tie up the match, but it wasn’t enough, as Armenia scored a late winner in Tbilisi for a 2-1 result.
Here’s video of Vako’s goal:
It must be said, the penalty that preceded this looked pretty suspect.
Vako didn’t start the match, instead coming off the bench in the 56th minute after playing most of the playoff last week against North Macedonia. His club and country teammate, Guram Kashia, was an unused substitute Sunday, after playing most of the game as well last week in the playoff.
The duo could see more time Wednesday, when Georgia host Estonia in another Nations League clash. That means the players will definitely not be available for the Earthquakes’ playoff game against Sporting Kansas City next Sunday, but neither has played a major role in recent weeks, so it works out.
