The game, originally scheduled for Sunday at Earthquakes Stadium, was postponed because of three positive coronavirus tests last week on LAFC’s squad. The league opted to postpone, and they concluded the outbreak was evidently under control, so gave the green light for the game to be played.
This is the last possible time the game could have been played (aside from Thursday, maybe), with the MLS regular season wrapping up on Sunday, when the Earthquakes play the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Now, with two games to play, the road could be more difficult for San Jose to reach the playoffs. If they lose out and Vancouver win their final game on Sunday, they would be tied with Vancouver on points per game and Vancouver would pass them in the first tiebreaker, wins per game. And that would likely put the Earthquakes below the playoff line.
But, if the Quakes pick up points in their final two games, they should qualify. So, the task is simple — get the results. First one’s Wednesday, we’ll be covering the game as per usual.
