The San Jose Earthquakes clinched their first playoff spot in three years on Wednesday, and with that came some recognition from the league.
Earthquakes players Judson and Cristian Espinoza were selected to the MLS Team of the Week XI from Wednesday’s games, while forward Chris Wondolowski was on the bench and head coach Matias Almeyda was Coach of the Week.

San Jose posted a 3-2 win over LAFC on Wednesday to officially book their ticket to the postseason, and while the scoreline ended up being close, in reality the game was a far more comprehensive Earthquakes win on the night. Espinoza and Wondolowski scored for the winning side and Judson got some special recognition for his roving defense, all over the field.
The Quakes have made the playoffs despite having the worst 8-game defensive stretch in MLS history. Think about that.

Insane year. Great adjustments since then, and a bit of praise for the guy at the center of it all. pic.twitter.com/z3wGuIYB8l
The Quakes have had a great season, but it’s not over yet, with the regular season finale coming Sunday with a big playoff tuneup against the Seattle Sounders in Seattle.
But congrats to Judson, Cristian, Wondo and Profe. And hopefully there’s more celebrations to come this season.
