Let’s watch some old San Jose Earthquakes commercials

Blasts from the Quakes’ past.

Dwayne De Rosario #14

Do you ever watch old commercials? I can’t explain it, I hate watching new commercials these days, but there is something about old commercials to give you a world in the past and what was apparently cool?

Let’s use this to look at... San Jose Earthquakes commercials! What do we have in the old video bank?

This one seems NSFW (not safe for work) but there’s a twist! Also that history of salt book is really boring, I read it once, do not recommend.

Here’s one from 1999, shot through a potato, but don’t worry, the pulse effect shows you it’s exciting!

Here is one that I have to assume was made during the height of “The Office” popularity in the United States, because it otherwise doesn’t make much sense in a Quakes context.

This one is from 2005 and building it around the moves of Dwayne De Rosario and Co. is a pretty good call in my opinion, although the music sounds maybe a little more dated than one would hope.

In contrast, this one from 2004 also features a quick peek of DeRo but also has a substantially bigger production value, as a preacher requests a 3rd MLS Cup.

This one looks like a spec commercial or a project, it’s pretty high concept but speaking of “The Office” it is kind of like the time Michael directed a Dunder Mifflin commercial for fun.

If you’re craving something more recent, here is a Quakes commercial done entirely in emoji a few years back.

Ok, now which one of these commercials is your favorite?

What do you think? Let’s chat in the comments below.
