We’re on the third round of running through the San Jose Earthquakes’ MLS-era jerseys for our bracket contest. Next up, the post-hiatus period, when the club made a big switch in their jersey colors for the next several years.
Let’s walk through the looks together and then you can vote for the best of the lot in the poll below.
2008

The Quakes are back, baby! This primary jersey introduces a new primary color, black, with blue and white as accent colors.

The white secondary features “EarthQuakes” with blue accents and black stripes. Looks a little simple, but hey, the team is back, that’s really what matters here.
2009

Goodbye San Jose, hello Amway, as the Quakes got their first jersey sponsor in 2009. Otherwise the primary jersey remained the same as 2008’s.

Ditto on the secondary.
2010-11

The color scheme remains the same on this primary jersey, with the blue accent color blocks moving to the shoulder/armpit area and some accent piping on the upper chest.

The secondary also maintains continuity with previous versions, but the oblique blocks are asymmetrical — one side the blue bloc goes down to the bottom of the shirt, the other it ends halfway through. Why? No idea!
2012-13

They really embraced the Quakes black in this spell, with the primary featuring only bits of blue like under the armpit, white piping on the sleeves and obliques, and a lot of black.

The Quakes barely used these secondary jerseys, which were blue with black armpit blocs and accents and white Adidas stripes, in 2012, but used them much more the following year. This is an unusual secondary in recent history, because the Quakes didn’t have a white secondary, which has become the standard to help differentiate the opponent.
