The date is set, and now, so is the opponent.
The San Jose Earthquakes will face Real Salt Lake in the Round of 16 of the MLS is Back Tournament knockout stage, with the game set for Monday at 5:30 pm PT.
RSL has a 1-1-1 record so far at the MLS is Back Tournament, beating Rocky Mountain Cup rival Colorado Rapids 2-0 to open their group play, then drawing Minnesota United 0-0 in a truly turgid affair, before losing 2-0 to Sporting Kansas City Wednesday morning. That means San Jose will be playing on three extra days of rest compared to Real Salt Lake.
San Jose, of course, have an unbeaten record so far in the tournament, drawing the Seattle Sounders 0-0, then beating the Vancouver Whitecaps 4-3 and capping it off with a 2-0 win over the Chicago Fire, clinching the top spot in their group. But if they want to keep playing, they’ll need to win this one, as well as the rest on up through the final.
The game will be televised Monday at 5:30 pm PT on FS1. Mark your calendars now!
