With MLS removing coronavirus-laden FC Dallas from the MLS is Back Tournament this week, plus the other game originally scheduled for Friday currently being postponed for the time being, Friday’s tournament opener for the San Jose Earthquakes against the Seattle Sounders has been rescheduled to a 6 pm PT kickoff.

The game was originally scheduled to kick off at 7:30 pm PT, but since it’s the only game in the evening and ESPN (you can watch on Fubo TV) don’t have other live sports going in the evening right now anyway, they accommodated the time change.

It’s still unclear if San Jose’s group, which also includes Vancouver Whitecaps FC in addition to the Sounders, will remain a three-team group or if the teams will only have two matchdays in the group stage with FC Dallas departing. Multiple sources with knowledge of the situation within the affected clubs have told Center Line Soccer Wednesday that no decision has been announced to them by the league to resolve the situation.

Furthermore, while Vancouver are present at the tournament, they will be missing several key players, as forwards Fredy Montero, Lucas Cavallini, Tosaint Ricketts, midfielder/defender Andy Rose and defender Georges Mukumbilwa all announced they will not participate in the competition and did not travel to Orlando. All five players either opted out for personal or medical reasons or were told by the club not to participate for medical reasons.

I suspect we’ll hear some more about San Jose’s group, one way or another, before long and we’ll update as we learn it. For now, Friday’s game is still on, at a different time, and the Quakes are set to be back in action very soon.
