The San Jose Earthquakes have two games coming up over the next week, but there’s three more beyond where that came from.
After the Quakes’ big California Clasico clash against the LA Galaxy Sunday and Wednesday’s make-up meeting against the Portland Timbers, San Jose will face the Timbers a second straight time, on Saturday Sept. 19, also at Earthquakes Stadium. Then the Earthquakes will hit the road, to play the Colorado Rapids on Sept. 23, before heading back to Southern California to take on LAFC Sept. 27.
The Quakes, obviously, are in a tough spot, winless since returning to the local phase of play in the MLS regular season and coming off a record-worst loss, 7-1 to the Seattle Sounders midweek. Perhaps the silver lining is all of the Timbers, Rapids and LAFC have had middling-to-poor form since they’ve returned to this phase of play, too.
At any rate, the games have to come one at a time as Matias Almeyda and company try to get the season on track, but now we know the next five games scheduled in the slate as part of the weirdest season ever.
