The 2021 MLS Draft is scheduled for Thursday morning, and it’s the kickoff event for the calendar of events each year in the league.
The revamped draft will only be three rounds this time — the league cut the fourth round after teams repeatedly waived picks in that round over the years — and the first round is scheduled to be streamed on MLSsoccer.com and the MLS app. With the pandemic, this won’t be a big event like it’s been in the past, however the league happened to prepare for this already in 2020, as they did a decentralized remote stream event as well, so it should look similar to last year.
So, where do the San Jose Earthquakes pick in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft? Bear in mind that teams can conduct trades in the lead-up to the draft and could even execute trades on draft day, but here’s where they are currently scheduled to select:
- 1st Round: No. 12
- 2nd Round: No. 12 (No. 39 overall)
- 3rd Round: No. 12 (No. 66 overall)
Well, that’s easy to remember!
The Quakes ended up signing their two draft picks in 2020, Tanner Beason and Jack Skahan. Will they add another player or three this year? We’ll have to tune in and see what happens.
