Eric Calvillo made his debut for El Salvador Friday, as the San Jose Earthquakes midfielder came off the bench at halftime in a 2-0 loss to Canada to start the countries’ Concacaf Olympic qualifying tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The damage was done on the day by the time Calvillo entered the game, with Tajon Buchanan scoring a first-half brace for Canada to give them the lead they needed to pick up the win.
So all in all, a tough result for El Salvador but they get two more chances to qualify out of group play, starting with their next game Monday against Honduras. That one’s tricky for a whole host of reasons, but among them, Honduras are currently group leaders and this is pretty close to a must-win for El Salvador. Can they do it?
Regardless, congrats to Eric for making his debut on the international stage for El Salvador.
