San Jose Earthquakes announce two preseason games

Plus, a bonus game for the new second team.

In preseason it seems teams are either playing many games or few this year, and the San Jose Earthquakes appear to be opting for the latter approach, as they’ve announced two tune-up games for their first team.

The Quakes will host USL Championship side Sacramento Republic FC on Friday, Apr. 2 at Earthquakes Stadium, and will then host fellow USL Championship club Oakland Roots on Friday, Apr. 9. Those games will help the Quakes work up to their season opener on the road on Apr. 16 against the Houston Dynamo.

In addition, Sacramento Republic announced a preseason game against the San Jose Earthquakes U-23 team, which is presumably the second team Earthquakes GM Jesse Fioranelli teased recently. The time, date and location of that match is fully TBD.

The preseason games for San Jose’s first team are both closed-door, and in the Matias Almeyda era details of what happened in said closed-door friendlies are typically not forthcoming in any real depth. Still, if anything trickles out we’ll keep you posted.
