The votes are in, and the Center Line Soccer San Jose Earthquakes Player of the Month for May 2021 is midfielder Eric Remedi.

The Argentine was a fixture in San Jose’s lineup in May, starting all six games and going the full 90 in all of them.

Remedi arrived in a trade from Atlanta United in the offseason with some questions around his fit. While he was part of a team that had won three trophies in a short time with Atlanta, he had fallen out of the rotation there and with San Jose previously playing a locked-in midfield duo of Jackson Yueill and Judson, it was unclear if he would have a role in the early weeks as a starter.

With Judson missing preseason in order to acquire his Green Card, however, Remedi stepped up and to this point, has pushed the Brazilian out of the starting XI. Remedi not only has been a strong defensive midfielder, he’s served as a player progressing the ball upfield, too, something he had not really shown with Atlanta United.

So amid the up and down May for the Quakes, Remedi probably was the most consistent player for San Jose and therefore his selection is a worthy choice. Thanks for voting if you did so, and congratulations to Eric for being Player of the Month.
